　　A gas explosion at a community market in Shiyan, Hubei Province, this morning has caused several casualties, the Hubei Daily reported. The blast sent a huge shockwave, causing extensive damage to several buildings and a scene of devastation.

　　The gas explosion is believed to have been a natural gas explosion. Normally, the safety of natural gas is very good, and there are few explosions. In the household natural gas pipeline, installed with gas emergency cut-off valve, once the instrument detects leakage, it will automatically cut off the valve, to prevent accidents. But for some reason, such as the aging of the pipeline, there may be a leak in the underground natural gas pipeline, the gas gathered in the underground space to the explosion limit, and there was an explosion.

　　1、Common types of gas

　　Gas generally includes natural gas, artificial gas, liquefied petroleum gas. Natural gas and artificial gas are piped to homes, and liquefied petroleum gas is usually supplied to homes in bottles. The density of natural gas and artificial gas is smaller than that of air, and it is easy to spread after leakage. Liquefied petroleum gas density is higher than air, after leakage is easy to accumulate, not easy to spread.

　　2、Danger of gas

　　The main hazards of gas are: fire, explosion, poisoning.

　　Fire：Gas leakage fire or gas appliance causes ignition of flammable materials around the fire.

　　Explosion：Gas leakage and air form a certain concentration of explosive gas, in case of open fire explosion.

　　Poisoning：Carbon monoxide binds to the body's hemoglobin, causing tissue to be starved of oxygen and suffocate。
